Like many essential appliances, we don't always think about our water heater - until it stops working. Thankfully there are ways to avoid these kinds of unexpected issues! By remembering these 4 top water heater maintenance tips you can prevent many water heater-related emergencies.
Adjust the Temperature
The default temperature for most water heaters is 140°. However, according the Department of Energy, 120° is the most efficient temperature for your water heater. By lowering the temperature to 120° you can save on your bills and avoid any issues with scalding water!
Keep the Area Around it Clean
To avoid potential fire hazards or water damage to your property, make sure to keep the area around your water heater clean. We recommend leaving at least 2 feet of space between your water heater and any other items.
Flush Your Water Heater Regularly
Flush your water heater regularly to keep it working efficiently throughout the year. A full flush should be done every year, however we recommend draining a few gallons from the unit every 3-4 months.
If the water you drained has a lot of sediment, you may need to do a full flush. You can do the flush on your own or give us a call and a water heater technician will do it for you!
Schedule an Annual Inspection
The best way to ensure your water heater is working at its best is to schedule an annual inspection. By trusting the experts, you can rest assured that your water heater will continue to run effectively and efficiently all year!
